RATH as a surname

has anyone researched this name or have it themselves?

Looking for Rath in 1911 census records gave me quite a few who had been born in Germany/Austria. I have a personal interest as my father's middle name was Rath, and I was told his father may have been German.

If you're looking for links on here, try using the search trees facility.

I looked in Search Trees and there over 300 Raths scattered globally.

I am not looking for a particular person, but thought that maybe someone may have the name and researched it.

Who knows? It may lead eventually to my unknown grandfather.

Your father's marriage cert will include the name of HIS father.....if he knew him.

If, however, the details are not on the cert, you will not be able to identify the man

There is no particular name as the father's name was unknown (except to the mother)

I'll try both of those sites thank you, Gwyn and Rose.

Hello Karen
I know there are place names with 'Rath' in Eire so didn't know if my Dad's father was Irish. There is also a place called Rath in Cologne germany and it was originally a scandinavian word with 2 totally different meanings.

I haven't yet tried the site 'onename' but I have looked on the searchtrees but couldn't find anything likely, even after deleting the women.

Perhaps you wil have something interesting to tell me.

please pm .
