	I've no idea either! But if you try this site as a portal, you may find some information to help you on your way. www.cyndislist.com You could also do a search for Italian or Anglo-Italian family history societies. There are number of results which may be of use. On this link, it suggests that census records are normally kept in the State archive for each province http://www.anglo-italianfhs.org.uk/articles/researchinitaly.pdf Hope you find some useful information.
