If your family tree is on GR then if she is or becomes a GR member (Even a free one) you will be able to give her access to your tree on GR. She will then be able to view your tree without the need for you to copy anything.

If your tree is currently on your computer on any sort of family tree software then she will need to own a copy of that software or a compatible one in order to be able to view the copy that you send to her whether by disc or as a file attachment via email.

You can always download it as a gedcom file which you can then email to her. However she will need to install a family tree program in order to make sense of it.

Hover over Family tree above left and select Gedcoms. Click on Export GEDCOM on the left hand side. You can ignore the purple warning as this relates to importing your tree back to GR.

Your GEDCOM file will be emailed to you once it has been prepared. This process normally takes 5-10 minutes depending on the size of your tree.

Save the file attachment onto your PC.

As I mentioned, to read the file, you or your niece will need a tree program. Commercial programs sucha as Family Tree Maker cost around £20 but there is a freebie called Personal Ancestry File which can be downloaded from the Family Search Site.

look on the right hand side of the page to find the link under Free PAF Family History Software

Another option is to open a web account on a site such as Tribal Pages and upload the Gedcom file you get from GR. Your Niece can then view your tree on there directly. If you do this you may want to look at privatising it so that all and sundry can't see it too.

Good luck - shout out if you have any questions or problems and someone on here will be sure to help.

Sorry, but GR Free Members can not view trees. She would have to subscribe.

That's right, I have several family members who had been happily viewing my tree but now can't do so unless they subscribe. I think it's a failry recent change?
