George Foreman has 10 children, and each of his five sons is named George: George Jr., George III, George IV, George V, and George VI. His four younger sons are distinguished from one another by the nicknames "Monk", "Big Wheel", "Red", and "Little Joey".

I have a situation where some ggg grandparents named every boy child they had William, and every girl child Anne, until one eventually survived :( Most died before the next one was born. Infant mortality was shockingly high in the 1700's and 1800's.

It's an amendment.

An error was made at registration and he was registered as James....Someone got a bit confused

The mistake was noticed and then the amendment made hence the 'a' and the hand written entry at the bottom of the page for John.

As the amendment was made in the same quarter there was no need to put the usual cross reference note.

WELL i was puzzled very early on when looking for my maternal grandad to see two James Batchelors on the census. one aged 4 and one aged one ,Thought it was a mistake so ignored it at that time , Many look ups later I realised wasnt a mistake!! one was James Joseph and the other James Herbert, each was known on a day to day basis by their second name,
Seems grandfather had a twin James who died at a young age !!

No death showing for the second James. It is written in at
the bottom of the page if you look at the actual entry.
As you say all very strange.

Also, they are recorded right next to each other in records 1251 and 1251a, same mothers maiden name, same date etc - massive coincidence or am i reading to much into it??

Their mother is the same woman - Maudland Doran - an unsual name so not sure there is another couple , their fathers name is Thomas Brockbank Lynch, again not a usual name........i think it must be an error........

But James D was still alive, and James C was born after him.......thats what baffeling me....James D never passed away until 1988, but could it be that James C died soon after birth.......and they just used that name? Really strange.....

Hi can anyone help.....

I have just looked up my Grandad's siblings.....

Thomas B Lynch - 1916
James D Lynch - 1919
John C Lynch - 1924 - My Grandad............
James C Lynch - 1924
Michael Lynch - 1928
Elizabeth Lynch - 1930
George Lynch - 1932

Looks like there was another James listed at the same time my Granda was born - could this be a genuine mistake, or correct? Firstly I remember James D from my childhood (he died in 1988). My granda never mentioned a "twin" or anything like that......looking at the indexed records they apparently inhabit Lines 1251 and 1251a....in the records - what does this mean? All born in Whitehaven Cumbria - their mothers name is Maudland Doran.
