are they absolutely identical otherwise?

It is possible that a mistake was made on the first reg and it caused a re-reg

Often the cause of a handwritten entry

The other is when a birth is registered in a subsequent year and the page no (usually handwriiten entry) says eg See D'68

Sorry i really should have put that.

Typed entry for 1953 Oct-Dec Jones Elen M Vol 8c page 123

And then hand written at the bottom of the same page Jones Elen M Vol 8c page 6789

I hope this is a good example, i'm not very good at them.

Many Thanks

please could you explain what you mean by 'same page different numbers'

you do not need to give real names just an example using 'john Smith' or something

on what site did you find the entries

Hi i wonder if someone could give me some advice on birth entries. I have just looked up my aunt's birth in 1953 and have found two birth entries on the same page with different numbers. Do you think this could be because her parents didn't marry untill 1957, and they re-registered the birth. My daughter has 3 birth entries one under my maiden name one under her given name and then one 2 years later after i married her father.

Many thanks
Heidi
