Hello all, new to this type of forum, I am looking for responsible sites that I can use to gather info in connection with Ireland, North and South, I have used Emerald Ancestors with limited success but their database IS limited, any help would be greatly appreciated.

This free site has some Irish records including the BMD indexes (only up to 1920 for Northern Ireland):

Also try googling the area(s) you are interested in, adding genealogy to the search criteria.

There are several threads on the boards about Irish research. Try putting Ireland in the Search box at the top of the screen.

i see that Edward and Matilda's marriage is on Emerald Ancestors. Do you have their marriage cert which would give you their ages, occupations, fathers' names and occupations. You could then look for them in the 1911 census.

Hi Potty, yes I have a copy of my Grandfathers Marriage to Matilda Harrison, so yes I have the ages, I do of course have my Fathers Birth certificate but I cannot find anything for Matilda, and as for Edward and Matilda's fathers who are on that Marriage doc, I cannot trace them, I spoke with BMD Belfast this morning and basically unless I can provide info regarding their wives name and DOB's short of going over there and researching for myself, they can’t do anything...I am not even sure if they are from Ireland, they may be from Scotland or indeed England, but again I would need something else to link to..

But I'll keep on it, have to get off to work soon but will have a browse tonight.

I have had a look at the Irish Census for 1911 and there are only two Matilda Harrisons in Northern Ireland:

one aged 7, with father Robert, living in Loughans (Tullylish, Down)

one aged 18, a servant, b England, living at 23 in Oldpark Road (Clifton, Antrim)

Does either of these tie up with Matilda's age, etc from the marriage cert?

I know..I found the Tullylish one, but her fathers name is John Harrison, not sure about the other one.

According to her marriage Matilda age is 22 making her birth about 1898, there's only 1 Matilda Harrison born 1898 Co wicklow
