Question re FreeBMD

I did a look up today for my Aunt's wedding.

My Aunt, Kathleen Mortimer, married Cyril Pyecroft.

I found a wedding in the Dec quarter 1938 for a Cyril B Pyecroft to a Mortimer, but when I did a search on Kathleen Mortimer..nothing. Also did a search just on Mortimer, again nothing.

When I clicked on the page field, only three names appeared, a couple who were obviuosly married and Cyril B Pyecroft, but no other person.

I see that the 1938 records are at 96% complete but would have thought that all on the same page would have been transcribed.

I'm sure that the marriage is my Aunt's but would like a little more certainty before sending of for the cert.

Any advice would be most welcome

Ancestry shows a match of those names, when Kathleen married Cyril B.

ManyThanks Gwyn and Joan for your extremely speedy responses.

I will now send off for the certificate.

Once again, my sincere thanks to you both

The number against your Aunt's name (or her name) has probably been mistranscribed, or even missed off! Strangely, no one with the 1st name of Kathleen is transcribed for that quarter or reg district.

You could put a 'post it' against Cyril B's ref to tell other people who he married to help other people in the future. :-)

The transcribing by FreeBMD is from the GRO Indices which are held alphabetically by surnames. So presumably some of the Ms haven't been done yet.

Sometimes if there are an odd number of people on a marriage page it is because a district, volume or page number has been typed incorrectly. In such cases it is usually easy to find the correct entry.

It does appear that the page that includes Kathleen Mortimer has not yet been transcribed. I have access to this page, being a transcriber for freebmd, and searched for other names on the page and none showed up.

Since you know the year and quarter of interest, you can go to FreeBMD's home page and take the view images link, and, via a klunky interface, eventually get to the Mortimer page in the index, and check her out yourself.
