childrens homes in 1915?

Could anyone tell me if there was such a thing as a childrens home in 1915,or would a child be put in a workhouse until it was adopted out?x :-D :-D

There were children's homes run by charities and private individuals in 1915 and also Workhouse Union Children Homes

There certainly were. Thomas Barnado's charity for example had 96 childrens homes when he died in 1905. The first was established in 1867.

thanks for your comments,my granddad was born liverpool 1915 and adopted in 1916.his birth mother being a servant and no father around would have found it difficult to keep him.im not sure what happend to grandad during the yr before his adoption,(his adopted parents were not married until jan 1916,grandad wasborn feb 1915) but just wondered if he might have been put into a home until his adoption. :-D :-D
