Well it looks as though the source was the ships muster so I assume he must have been listed on the muster for him to be included in the database

Ria Thats a great site and i think it answers the question.
Admiral Calder engaged the enemy nr trinidad but battle was indeisive He failed to engage next day and was court martialed.
so gt grandfathers ship was most likely in his squdron.
but its a fab site with lots of history thanks again for that

Just because he got the medal does not mean he was there!! as the medal was struck years later on order of queen victoria and was used as a genral service medal. Only officers got a medal for being at trafalgar after the battle.

but this is irrelivant as im just trying to find out if the ship existed and if the captain was court martialed

Because if it does not exist well he may well of been on hms swiftsure as states on trafalgar site nat archivs.

Well, hopefully, if you look at the link I gave you it should have a record for him! If you're sure he got the medal, then presumably he was there!

WELL , I was Searching For The Vessel MY GTGT GRANFATHER WAS ON IN 1805.One member of my family reckons he was on a ship that failed to get to the battle because it got lost!! I have tried googling and all sorts but cant find such a vessel !! so i put the question up for debate Dave

I'm not sure I understand the relevance of the query about the Captain and how it relates to your ancestor.

Have you looked at this database?

Admiral collinworth was in charge of royal soverien ,she was cashired prior to battle ,so he had to find a new crew when called upon . that was a bbc documentry a while back

Hi thanks to you both ,I tried google but found nothing, it was suggested to me but as i cant find anything think its not true.
My gt gt grandfather born c 1780-89 was in navy as boy born in worstead norfolk his name william henry willson, at first i thought he was aboard Royal soverieng but found that this was his father . But he was awarded a trafalgar medal

Can anyone enlighten me to the name of a ship or captain who failed to arrive because he sailed wrong way and was suposedly court martialed for it. ie never made it to trafalgar ? thanks Dave
