Hi Vicky

The only thing I can find is that a fire occurred at The Coffee House, 13 Artillery Row, Westminster according to Reynolds's Newspaper (London, England), Sunday, October 14, 1888.

Vicky

It is really a matter of luck as to whether you can find records for the business.

Have a look at the National Archive in-depth research guide to Companies and Businesses

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/research-guides/companies-and-businesses.htm

Also always worth a search for the family/business name in the online archive index..

A2A (Access to Archives)

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/

As an aside, my GGrandfather was a Coffee House Keeper in Battersea London in 1906 but no records for the business survive....And believe me I have searched all the possible avenues!

Good luck
Chris

Please can anyone help?
My Gt Grandfather Alfred Thomas Hickman
born 1865, married Sarah Anne Batts 24th November 1888
and died 17th October 1919.
His occupation was a coffee house keeper and lived at 13 Artillery Row, St George Square, Westminster. This address is now a Barclays bank. What I would like to know is the history of his coffee shops as I believe he had a couple where can I find this information when did he buy them and when were they sold?
After he died I don’t know what happened to Sarah any ideas?
Thank you,
Vicky.
