Does anyone know where this was / is please?
I am searching for the location of a 1909 birth at the Coastguard Station, South Parade.
I know that the pier is South Parade pier. Was the coastguard station on it or near by?

Local knowledge or pointers where to look would be great please.

will this help
PUBLIC RECORD OFFICE SOURCES:

The major records concerning the Coastguard Service are held at the Public Record Office, Ruskin Avenue, Kew, Surrey http://www.pro.gov.uk The records of the precursors to the Coastguard Service are also held there.

Records of service for coastguards are held in ADM 175
England 1816 to 1918
Scotland 1816-1866
Ireland 1816-1869

These records are indexed by station so it is necessary to know where a man served. One way of doing this is from the place of birth of his children given in later censuses. Coastguards were moved fairly frequently so they may have served at 3 to 5 locations. Often, this pattern of service can be seen from the census records for their children. I have used this a number of times to follow a man back.

Thank you Maddie.
Maybe I can find a photo at Kew.

A child was born in Southsea in 1909, but by 1911 the family had moved up to the east coast of England, later returning to the Portsmouth area.

I have had OH on the case too and he found an old early 1900s map online which shows the location. By noting nearby roads we were able to find the area on a present day Google satellite map.
Sadly the area is now a car park.

I might have a trip to Kew to see what I can unearth.

There used to be a Coastguard Tavern in Clarendon Road but it may have been demolished.

Thank you for the link.

If you know Southsea, the coastguard station was on a corner not far from The Dell.... a sunken flower bed, just west of the pier.
