It is quite annoying isn't it? when it says to try later, like you said when is later!? or sometimes it says 'sign in to view' so you sign in and still says 'sign in to view' even though you are!!

I only found out about theses church records a couple of weeks ago! but i have managed to find about 5 marriage certificates for my ancestors so far, which is great! saves having to buy them!! :-)

If I search for a name on the new Family Search Site and it finds it, it does say image not available on line, and I know you have to transcribe to Find My Past or another site to view this, but I think I may be talking about another way.

If I browse by location, (scroll down from entering name) click Europe, you then get a list of places where the actual original bishops transcripts can be scrolled through page by page. I clicked on England, Lancashire, Cheshire, Yorkshire Parish Records 1603 -1992, then Browse through 157,240 images. It then comes up with Lancashire (this area has the most towns), Cheshire and Yorkshire.

Clicking Lancashire gives a list of many places. I clicked on Manchester St Martins, baptisms and then got the message

"This image is currently unavailable, please try again later".

If I have read the messages wrong, I aplogise but this is just in case people do not know about these originals. As I say, the first time I did this yesterday I did get to view the originals, but have got this message ever since. Just wonder when later actually is lol!!!

Hello,

I got in touch with them about images not being available, as it said to sign in to view the image, but even when i was signed in it was still saying 'image not available, sign in to view'!!!
Here is what they said:

"The Image is not available" error message appears when trying to access some of the images, even when users are signed in. This is due to privacy restrictions in both the UK and EU which prohibit viewing images for within the last 100 yrs.
Privacy restrictions are applied to an entire roll of film, not record by record. So if only 10% of the film contains restricted records, ALL records on the film are restricted.
In a future rework the links to those restricted images will be removed. See entire wiki article at the following site: https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/England,_Lancashire_%E2%80%93_Cheshire_%E2%80%93_Yorkshire_Church_of_England_Parish_Registers_%28FamilySearch_Historical_Records%29

I think Wisechild is correct,I have had one search which advised "this image is available on FMP" and a link came up with the options for payment !!!

From what I can understand, much of the info on the new Family search is linked to FMP which is why you can´t view the image,
You have to be a member of FMP & go to the site to look at the info.
All you can view on Familysearch is the info that they hold themselves.

Just received an email -

Thank you for contributing to FamilySearch’s open access initiative by helping us index the world’s records.

I guess that is why you register???

MarilynB Report 4 Jul 2011 22:35

I have just done the same, wonder why you have to register all of a sudden, or what extra you do get??!!! I went on earlier in the day just to see and saw a record, (just one page) but thought maybe to go further you did have to register. Oh well, no doubt we will find out lol.

Will try again tomorrow, thanks both of you.

I have just registered - there is no payment.

I then looked to see if I can see an image and I got the same message - Image is not available online.

I must say that I am now wondering what are the benefits of registering??

Does anyone know?

The best way to find out is to go through the registration process......you'll soon find out if they want any payment! Personally, I would doubt that they do......................

Just wondered does anyone know if you have to sign in now on the new version of Family Search to actually see the parish records. Trying to view them and it keeps saying this image is not available at the moment. Noticed something in the corner which says sign in and then you have to register to view them. Is this free, dont want to fill anything in unless I know whether it is payable or not.

Thanks, Marilyn :-S
