tryng to trace biological mother

Hi, my uncle has asked for my help trying to trace his biological mother ( he was adopted as a baby) All I have is his mothers name and where and what year my uncle was born. He just wants to know if she is still alive or not.
As you can see I have very limited info and am at a loss as to what to do with it,

Any help or advice would be greatfully received!

Has he bought his original birth cert? that may be the place to start,
Also he is entltled to see his adoption file but only he can apply for it
