No, I'm afraid I can't find her either! She's very elusive isn't she?!

Hi Maureen

Sorry I haven't replied earlier - not been on line for a while.

My ancestor was Ruth Brooks. She was born in Edworth, Bedfordshire in 1848. I've found her on census as follows:
1851 Edworth
1861 Edworth
1871 Palace St, Biggleswade (Boarder) Occupation Straw Plaiter

1891 All Hallows Lane, Bedford (Visitor) No occupation given
She died in 1893 in Bedford.

She was arrested and charged with being 'drunk & disorderly' in 1874. She was described by the Police Constable as 'a Prostitute'!!

Where was she in 1881? Or will it remain one of the world's great mysteries??

Thanks Maureen. I'm having a problem locating an ancestor and there is a possibility she might have been in prison!!

Can anyone tell me please - were prisoners (ie in gaol) listed in the 1881 census?
