Hi, how do I go about finding out about the history of a property/people who used to live there etc?

My daughter has just moved into an old interesting property, which has now been converted into student flats and I would love to know about anything about the house, then I can share it with all the girls now living there.

The address is

46. Hyde Terrace, Leeds LS2 9LM

Regards

Debi

Trace the owners on:

I would suggest you amend your posting to delete any reference to young people currently living in the property from a security point of view.

Thanks, I just tried that and it keeps saying an error has occurred every time I try to search, will try again later.

Thanks patchem, so it was a student house then too! Have you any info on earlier and how did you find out?

'Find my past' for 1911 census lets you search by street name.
I do not have 'find my past' for previous censuses, just ancestry.
I have sometimes slowly worked my way through a census trying to follow a street, but they can double back on themselves for their numbering system.
As I said, lots of houses get renumbered, so it could quite easily be a different house.
Just thought I would post up what I found to show you that we were thinking about your query.

You just need someone with the correct subscription?

I only have Genes and haven't a clue how to access addresses from there. Also. don't have a clue as what to do with the info above.

Much thanks

Ancestry lets you search 1881 by address. Also the 1881 transcriptions are free (but not the images). I searched for street addy=46 hyde, civil parish=leeds and got no hits. I then changed to addy=hyde and got 142 hits (including some unoccupied houses and houses abuilding). Once I've gotten a name, like Sarah Lucy Davison at # 20, I can look her up at:
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp
and see her household transcription, and use the next/previous links at top right to go along the street. Seems like the house got built in the 1880s.
