Or it can be done to see if your DNA matches ancestors further back by linking with distant cousins DNA etc. I think it is used quite a lot in family history. I don't think there is anything suspicious about it. However I don't know the answer to your question Tom sorry.

But it can also be used to see if a certain person is your father or if you're the father of a certain person.

I think it can be done to tell if you have 'foreign' ancestry, ie some negro or indian blood. I remember Colin Jackson having it done for WDYTYA, and also there was a series where well known people had it done, quite interesting results in some cases. Apparently Norman Tebbit's results made him out to be very dull, his ancestors never travelled around.

A curious gift! I'm suspicious. What was the reason for having your DNA tested? Did the person giving the gift have access to the results? Your DNA is so very personal, like your fingerprints, photo, social insurance number all wrapped up into one.

I had a look in the FAQ bit, but nothing had the answer really. I shall email them!
It was a gift, but i think they cost about £100 each or theres a deal if you have both.

Didn't you ask whoever it was who did the test?

Hi, i have just had my dna tested and my results came back as Haplogroup R1B for YDNA and I for MTDNA. I was just wondering do i belong to the two haplogroups or just one of the two?
