If there was a removal order then an an examination would have taken place to establish right of settlement.

It would be worth looking for the examinaion as it may give a potted life history for the examinee however the amount of informaton given does vary also there is no guarantee that the examination will have survived.

From the examinaton of my 3xGGrandfather in 1815 I found out his previous occupation, when he had married, that he had a child, his parent's and sister's names, that the family had moved to another parish when he was a child, an indication of when his father had died and where and also the fact his mother had remarried .....The best £3 I have ever spent on a photocopy!

However I did discover some of the information given was a little economical with the truth but gave a good base for further research.

If an elderly parent is on the household list for George on the 1841 census that would help.

Gwyn, thanks for your input. There are quite a few baptisms in Corscombe for Saunders and I have been working my way through them on the Dorset OPC site. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find them elsewhere!

Moonbi, thanks for that info about FreeCen, will have a look and see. This lot are driving me mad.

In the Corscombe marriages I found 4 possible marriages for Georges parents but have now discounted one of them. Here are the other 3:

William Saunders married Jane Peach 13th September 1790.
Joseph Saunders married Sarah Churchill 12th August 1791.
Richard Saunders married Elizabeth Davy 15th February 1792.

I am sure one of these marriages is the right one and I'll get there eventually, lol.

There are 7 people with the Saunders name,of Chedington on FreeCEN for 1841

there are 13 people with the Saunders name, of Corscombe on freeCEN for 1841

there is a Richard Saunders, of Corscombe, age 73, who could be a possibility.

George is also there, and on freeCen you can view the households

have you tried the 1841 census for any Saunders of Corscombe who could be his parents ?
I realize it is a late date, but they could have still been alive in 1841.

Were there any baptisms in Corscombe?

Leaving a 'paper trail' by means of a baptism register was sometimes a way of claiming a link with a particular parish.
I have even heard of families having children rebaptised, in different parishes so as to ensure they had a good chance of relief if required.

I have today recieved a copy of the Removal Order for George Saunders, his wife Mary and children William, James and Sarah from Bradford Abbas to Corscombe in 1822.
I know for certain that George was born in Chedington and Mary his wife was born in Bradford Abbas. I thought they would have been removed to Chedington and not Corscombe.
Now I have been looking without success for Georges parents in Chedington and drawn a blank so having looked in the Corscombe marriages for Georges parents have found 4 possible couples.
Am I barking up the wrong tree or is it possible that George was removed to his fathers birth parish and not his own. I am desperate to find his parents but almost ready to give up.

Any thoughts or ideas welcome please.

I was able to get a photocopy of the removal order of my ancestor from the Northamptonshire Records Office.

You may find it on the National Archives site.I found one for 1780,s for one of my ancestors whose husband had deserted her and the children and she asked for Parish Relief .She was issued with a removal order to Wimbledon where she was born

George

A removal order was issued because the family were applying for Relief under the Poor Laws in a place other than the one they were from. It forced them to return to the place of their last legal settlement and make their claim there.

While researching my husbands GGG grandfather I came across a 'Removal Order' for him, his wife and 3 children from one village to another. Why was someone served with one of these orders and is it possible to get a copy of such an order.
