On checking Agnes Brady's baptism record....she was Baptised as Agnes, no second name....in Rathmines, co Dublin

Her birth isn't registered either (like many others of the same family) so I can't confirm if she had a second name or not! :-S

Hi, nowadays once a child has made their Conformation (R.C. Religion)usually aged 12-13 years, they can be sponsors for (Godparent) any childs Baptism here in Ireland.

Can only refer to 20th century. My husband came from a very large RC Irish family and I know that one of his sisters was a godmother to the youngest male child who was about 18 years her junior.

it's a difficult one! I have my gt gt aunt's baptism in Kerry ....one of her sponsors is named as Daniel , her brother's name...but it can't be him because he was only 2 at the time...so it must be an unknown uncle or cousin...

Didn't want you to have no replies :-)

Just checked the certificate of baptism for my great-great-aunt in 1851 but she was Church of Ireland and there were no sponsors.

When my Irish Gran was Baptised in Dublin City 1894, one of the sponsors was Agnes F Brady.

One of her sisters was Agnes Brady born 1876 Co Dublin.

Would it be likely that the sponsor was her older sister? I've assumed that it was, but wondered if anyone else has found the same.
