Hi, I have just joined genes reunited as I have been coming up against so many dead ends in my quest!
I have found a birth certificate for my great aunt but can not find a marriage certificate of the parents named on it. I can not find a birth certificate at all for my grandmother!
Is there any straightforward way of finding out siblings of relatives?

Any suggestions greatly welcomed! :-D

Find Ancestors is THE best place.;-)

If you need to know where to post what type of request, look at the Board Summary list under the Community button.

When you start your Looking For thread, try to give as much detail as possible

Names
YOB or DOB (unless likely to be still living)
Where born/lived
The records you already have of them.

Hopefully the Community can find the missing records on your behalf
:-)

Thanks for all the kind responses, after viewing more than 500 records I do hope some can help! Deep breath, here we go ...

I am looking for my Grandmother, Millicent Louise French born in 1921, place unknown. It is not the Millicent French with the mother Mouland, this is the only one who keeps coming up and I have been through that family and it isn't the right person unfortunately. My grandmother married Alfred Bateman in Watford, 1943.
Part of the frustration is I only have on solid fact to base my research on, the birth certificate of my great Aunt, Ivy Gertrude French born in Wandsworth, 1919 to Rose Legg and William Henry Brown French. There is a chance that my grandmother had a different mother or father to Ivy.
I have not been able to find any further information for Rose Legg and William French that fits, no marriage certificate and no other children. If they were married before 1912 her name would be listed I believe. I have also not been able to find a birth for William Henry Brown French or anything on the census that adds up. Either William French or Rose Legg, or both, may have died in the early 1920's as my grandmother and great aunt were taken into a convent in Finchley when 'they were young' but don't have a year, and unfortunately the convent has destroyed records for that period.
There is also a brother, or possibly half brother, by the name of Valentine French older than my great aunt and grandmother, but the only record in that name is not the right person as he died too early, my Valentine French was certainly alive in the 1970s, and we believe he would have been born around 1910.

I hope that doesn't sound too messy :-)

I do, yes. She lists her father as John French (deceased).
However, just to add to the mess, her sister Ivy also listed her father as John French on her original marriage certifcate of 1943 but this was then crossed through and altered in December 1944 by the registrar with a handwritten comment saying "For John French read William Henry Brown French". My grandmothers marriage certificate has not been changed.

Thanks Patchem, that is the only Valentine I found too but he died too early as my mother remembers meeting him at a wedding in the 70s. Of course there is a chance that he was just nicknamed Valentine because he was born around 14th Feb, but I don't know another name for him and haven't found any further children to the parents :-(
