Hi,

Does anyone know how to discover if an ancestor was divorced at the time of his next marriage? ( this would have been in the late 1920s - 1930s)

Divorces up to 1937 are name indexed on the National Archives Catalogue. If you find a record, then you can order copies from them.

Go to "Search the Catalogue" on their website, just put in the surname and use J77 as the reference to search.

Thanks for that but I don't have access to the marriage certificate as it was abroad. :-)

Is this enquiry for R Underwood? If so I have the marriage certificate for him and Florence peek in 1939

Hi,
Yes it was; I have the marriage details but was just trying to tie up loose ends with regards to Sybil etc. Also I have a maternal uncle who was in a similar situation and I have no one left in that generation of the family left to ask.

Thanks Lainie

I know my way around the National Archives Catalogue - I use it all the time, but some sites, such as the Timesonline aren't so easy!
