Hi

My great grandmother was down as a HIGGLER in an earlier census she was 12 years old at the time, her father was an agri/labourer and her brother was a ploughboy, so am thiking it could be something to do with farming or the land.

Higgler Itinerant peddler. A lot of the Higgler's trade involved barter, rather than money changing hands and the name derives from the resultant haggling.

It might be something to do with the land - she might have been peddling crops. One of my ancestors used to sell watercress and mint.
