There is lots of discussion about it here.

Now they have changed it to take account of place of birth there are only a small number of matches each time. It also appears that they may not be running the match software while the present troubles are being sorted.

In the meantime, using 'search trees' is a good way to look for matches............

I agree that 'search trees ' is a good way to find connections. So is 'tree matches' in the boxes on family tree. But I still miss having 'hot matches'. They produced a lot of names that were unconnected, but there was always something interesting. The most interesting hot matches to me were always those who had more than one name in common, and other routes do not show this information. I was happy with 'hot matches' as they were, without place of birth being tsken account of. I could always discard those I did not want. I am also uninterested in 'super hot matches' All these so called improvements have taken away a section I enjoyed.

Jenny,

Unfortunately (or not, depending on your point of view) there was an ongoing lobby from a band of regular members who objected to HotMatches not matching POB. and giving them what they unkindly termed 'NotMatches' In the end, GR gave way and decided to add POB to the search criteria.

End result - Hotmatches are now few and far between and, worst still, some could well be discarded by the checking algorithm where a human checker would be able to make the connection easily.

I'm like you, and was happy with them the way they were and having worked with matching programs at a professional level in the FS industry am not surprised in the least they way it has turned out.
