It even happens today.
My eldest sister and her husband have lived in the same house for 53 years.
Unlike me,I have moved so many times I would have to think about just how many.

Bridget
PS As a child I lived in Mile End very close to Bow and nearly all our neighbours had lived in the same house or another in the same road or street for generations.

I have a distant relative who lives in the house where he is born. He is 94 and has always lived there.
Prior to him, I have family in the same house in each census back to 1861.

My mother lived all her married life in one house...almost 70 years.

My mother lived at the house where she died for almost 50 years. We have lived in the same house since our marriage more than 42 years ago.

You will always find some people move around a lot and others stay put.

My great-grandmother lived in one house from her marriage in 1890 until her death in 1950. In fact, the same house was occupied by her grand-daughter from 1950 until 2005.

I have several examples of this in my family.

Hi all,

wondering if someone could help me with some information.

I have an ancestor (Fred) living at an address in Bow, East London at the time of his marriage (1930, he was 25) and in the 1911 census the same address.
This is also the address given on birth certs for his two children in 1932 and 1934.
Was it common for people to stay at the one address for that length of time?

Thank you in advance for any help
Joe
