I was told Charles was also married to either Mary Ann Backhouse or Mary Ann Springett, by one of these I am told he had a child, George Kemp born 1860 .

There is a difference between what you have been told, and what is an accurate fact. Always work backwards from what you know as an absolute certainty, otherwise you will waste a lot of time on red herrings.
One gets confused because 2 people tell you 2 things, and often both cannot be right.
That was why I asked who was your ancestor, as it gives us some known fact to work from.

They might be Hannah's parents, but the marriage certificate is needed for confirmation of father's name.
