I am looking for advice and help regarding tracing relatives from Italy. The only routes so far have been extremely expensive and I cannot afford this. Any help would be great!

Do you have any dates for your relatives?

you could try genforum.genealogy.com

From their home page, scroll down the listing and click on countries.
Click on Italy.

Spend some time looking through the message board, to get a feel for what sort of things are being asked/answered.
I'm not saying the answers to your questions will be there, but then, by posing a question or two, someone will surely point you in the right direction.

You could also go to the 'about.com' site, LOTS of info there, even template letters (in Italian language) to send to various records offices etc.

Hi,

Do you know whereabout in Italy they are from. There are no National BMD records as in the UK.

If you do know their origins the certificates give loads of info. The LDS have filmed Italian records so you could order the necessary film into your local centre for viewing if it's not one of the ones they have online.

A good site for learning how to explore your italian roots is the forum here ... http://www.italiangenealogy.com/

If you know the hometown or better dates or years of birth of your italian ancestors it is possible to obtain BMD certificates from the state archives

My family came from the Parma area and i have recieved many copies of official papers by email from the parma state archives at no cost proving family lines back to the 1750's
