Is it possible to find a birth in Ireland that could have been kept secret,
my gran left Ireland aged 17 in 1897,and never returned. And my MuM
I remember her saying she disgraced herself,All my life Iknew her as Delia, but after much research found out she was baptised as Bridget Mary Nolan. As they were catholic could it be that the child was placed in a convent or orphanage any clues Please Many thanks Pauline

Hello Shipshape, if she left Ireland what makes you think the baby was born there? Might she have come to England to have it?

Do you know where she went to (obviously she had your mum!)

Hi many thanks for your reply,I suppose its possible but I know where she was in 1901 on the census and she married in 1904 and went on to have 8 children, may be I am on the wrong track all together, but her brother asked her to go back bot never did,its as though she cut her ties with Ireland

Hi, you said that her brother asked her to return. Do you know where her brother was from? A child would always have been baptised within a day or two of birth what ever the circumstances, so if you started by contacting the local church (where the brother lived) it might be a good start. The priest from back then may have noted other important details too. Regards
