The one in the census could have been born in 1904(April onwards)

Fiona, births certs always have mother's maiden name, leaving out the occasionl error!
Mother's name won't be seen online untill last quarter of 1911.
Maybe you should just confirm what else you know? His father's name for example.

Yes. mother's maiden name will be on certificate.

I am new to this have managed to find only one W H Smith born(1905) the date of my grandfather on 1911 census all other brothers I am aware of were born after 1911 have the same maiden name on the record how do I find out his mothers maiden name as not on birth certificate record is it on original if i apply for copy, so I can be sure they are related. Also any tips on how to find living relatives.
