Having looked at the image out of curiosity I would say that it is H F the son age 6mths and not H T.

also says 3 children and 1 died

the hand writing is awful and his name may not actually be S W if you compare with other 'S' also the older son could be G A and not E A,

sorry not much help

Margaret, If you feel the Agnes H Clayton birth is one of yours then the cert may throw some light on problem.

Prokie Pie - thank you for that. I had already actually thought to search for other children of a Clayton/Elcock and have indeed found them but until I can find S W Clayton I cannot firmly establish whether this couple were married or not. I have my doubts. Thanks to everyone who has tried to help. Off to make the evening meal now. Will be back on later in case anyone else replies.

Rutland Belle - I suspect you are right. I suspect the Harry Frederick could be the child of A G but not the other one. A G was not in London at that time so am thinking the fellow was married previoiusly. Thank you for replying.

Margaret Report 31 Aug 2011 16:54

On 1911 census, I have the following: 45 Elswick Road, Lewisham, London
S W Clayton age 45 house painter b. Deptford
A G age 25 b. Romsey, Hants
E A age 7 b. 1904 Lewisham
H T age 6 months b. Lewisham
I age 49 Sister b. Lewisham

I am hoping that the A G is Agnes Gertrude nee Elcock but unfortunately I cannot find a marriage for her and a Clayton so I suspect she was not married to the mysterious Mr. Clayton. I have tried the 1901 census for SW Clayton b Deptford but cannot find him, neither can I find his birth which would have been 1866-ish. He could have been Samuel, Simon, Stephen, Simeon or anything and second name could be William, Wilfred or anything. I have racked my brains as to how I can determine who he is from the limited information I have. Thanks for any brilliant ideas you may come up with !!
