Hi . This a technical query rather than a request for a look up etc.
Not sure there is an answer to this question but if there is I'm sure someone out there will be able to help.
Q Is there a way of printing the census images without the black background? It seems to be such a waste of ink - I'm not mean but I do seem to be forever renewing the cartridges .
Any ideas gratefully received

The images you get from Ancestry don't have the black background. Possibly the same is true for FMP/Genes.

When I started and got the ones with black backgrounds, I used to edit and crop the images as much as possible and 'paint' the remaining black borders white.

Generally I try to avoid printing these days.

I have a graphics programme which cuts the background. My old windows xp did it by saving as a document then use the cropping tool and I think windows 7 which I now have has a snipping tool built in

Transfer the images to say Picassa photo editing, you can then crop the image to get rid of the unwanted stuff.then print off

if i can do it it must be easy

If you don't have Picasa you can download for free, just google it.

Thanks for that.
Will have a go at saving as document and cropping.

I rarely print the original census image anymore, that is saved to my hard drive, however I do print is the transcription for the family in question. I then check that with the image and mark any corrections.

I do this as I find that printing a image on A4 is too small
