Cooooeeeee .. is Tony from OZ around......

Hi All

Shock horror I have found a 'relly' who seems to have spent a lot of time 'at Her Majesties Pleasure" in NSW and Queensland.

I have found him,( Charles Muller, alias Thomas, born c1859 Maryborough Queensland, and other names) by searching the newspaper records. Then on Ancestry up pops his criminal history and a MUG shot. The last entry I find of him is in Bathurst gaol in 1909, doing 2 years hard labour.

Am I able to get any further records ??? becaus I feel he dies in gaol, as he seems to disappear or he is reformed chap !!!!!

Tks for any help

Cheers
Karen of Brisbane :-)

Hi Karen. Your best bet would be to contact the NSW State Records Archives, regarding prisoner entrance records regarding Charles Muller.
Bathurst Gaol should have prison records also, and could possibly tell you when and if he Charles Muller was released.
http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/

The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954) Friday 5 March 1909
Charles Muller, found at night with housebreaking implements in his possession, two years' hard labour in Bathurst gaol.

Access to records of gaol inmates

Access to records over 70 years old
The Department of Corrective Services has made access directions to cover records over 30 years of age. Access directions either open records to public access or close them for a longer period to protect sensitive information.
Under Access Direction 303, records of individual offenders (inmates) and Corrective Services staff are open to public access after 70 years. The access direction covers the records of predecessor agencies to the Department such as the Department of Prisons.

For further information about public access to State records consult the Register of Access Directions.
