Hi all

After a long lull in my research I am back on the case - hopefully pursuing another branch of my tree.

Sorry if this has been asked before - I couldn't readily see anything :-S

But ..... (there always is one, isn't there!)

The above relative has a marriage certificate, a probable birth certificate - with no mother's maiden name and no entry in either the 1901 or 1911 census that I can find at the moment.

There is a family belief that she was an orphan - are there likely to be any avenues I can pursue to prove/disprove this theory?

Thank you in advance
:-D

What do you mean by no Mother's maiden name - have you got the actual certificate?

You haven't given us enough information...

Where is she from if you found her in the earlier census?
Who was she married to?
Who was her father on the marriage Certificate?

Purhaps she moved abroad. Purhaps she died

Someone might be able to locate her with a bit more info.

Hi Andy

Yes - I think that is the birth I found - although there is no mother's name listed on it ..... ?

Confused newbie! :-D

Gosh - sorry, so many replies while I was typing that one!

I am awaiting the marriage certificate.

No I don't have the birth certificate yet - it is the transcription that shows no maiden name.

Charlotte married in 1915 - but I can't find any record of her in the previous two census!

There is no mothers maiden name on the computer record as these were not added until 1911. The detail will be on the birth cert.

Andy that is fantastic - thank you!

A valuable lesson learnt there not to be too specific in the search criteria methinks ;-)

Many thanks for your help, off to camp out in front of the letter box waiting for the next batch of certs to arrive :-D

Don't forgot to come back and tell us what the certs say! I suspect that there will be no father on the birth cert. The Frederick named on the baptism could have been a name plucked from the air and the same may happen on the marriage cert.
