I am new to this I have managed to establish that my Grandfather was one of 12 possible 13 born in 1905 in Liverpool with the name William Herbert smith, unfortunately although I know the names of the other 12 and my father who is still alive remembers 4 of them, I cannot establish when and whom they married as know idea where and with a name like Smith seems an impossible task.

I know that my fathers parents were Albert Smith and Janet Meikle and have and have found them on the 1911 census in Liverpool. They had 5 children then and further 7. Any help in how to find out further info would be appreciated

I see they didn't go in for middle names unfortunately, except for Albert! And the first names are pretty common too, so as you say quite a problem.
Apart from checking for matches on here or other sites (especially for Janet Meikle obviouslly!) all I can suggest is that you narrow it down as much as possible.

Have you looked in search trees?

Try looking for Janet Meikle...anyone researching the family SHOULD have her name in his/her tree
