Hello everyone.
I am trying to research my grand mothers family tree.Her name was Ellen Scanlon I think she was born in Lixaw Kerry Ireland on 3 June 1889.

I have a census return for her and her family on 1911 where she is called Helen Scanlon of Picton Place Cardiff who is 6 when she should really be 3or 4!
I then have a marriage her in Pontypridd Wales in 1914 where she married Patrick Moore. The problem is, the wedding certificate says she was 17! Maybe she was really 16. she is also called Nellie Scanlon.
I have her death certificate but unfortunately there is no date of birth for her of Eileen Teressa Moore who died 1945 aged 47 in Pontypridd. So as you can see all the usual stuff, name changes, age changes , the lot. What I think I need a document such as a National Insurance number or something similar from my grandmothers lifetime which says 3 June 1898. Where am I likely to get this information .

Are you sure you have the correct family? Your dates are confusing me how could she be either 6 or 3/4 in 1911 or do you mean 1901?

You also say she was born 1889 then you say 1898 ?

With the name Helen it is interchangable normally with Ellen or Nellie or Eleanor ...not seen it with Eileen though

You would need her birth cert from Ireland not sure how you would obtain that , but I am sure someone will tell you

I am not seeing her on the 1911 at the moment but her age is 3 on the 1901 which is correct.

She would have needed permission to marry at 16 or 17 anyway, maybe she just added the extra year to make her sound a little older if her husband was much older than her?

Yes I am a muppet!
I got her date of birth from the Irish online baptism records.
The census I am referring to is indeed the 1901 census.
Yes she was born in 1898 not 1889.
Yes her husband was 9 years older than her.
I forget to post there is a Nellie Scanlon living with Ann Harrington on the 1911 census from Pontypridd. She is aged 13 and is a visitor from Kerry. I'm sure this is my grandmother.
Is is the same Ellen Scanlon from Lixaw, Ireland though. How can I confirm these dates. Thank you for your replys.

If you got her birth from the baptism records that seems ok to me a year is nothing on marriage certs especially when a spouse is much older. My grandfather took 3 years off when he married whether my gran ever knew I dont know because the rest of the family never did.

As I said you would need to find her birth cert in Ireland but I do not know where you order those from

Eileen is a variant for Ellen, all the children from the 1901 census that jax give you, baptism are on the same site. Mother Mary Ware/Weir/Weare.

How can I definitely prove that Eileen Teressa Moore is also Ellen Scanlon. Even if I get Ellen's birth certificate, it won't really help as I don't have Eileen's birth date .

I now going to apply for a birth certificate for Eileen Teressa Scanlon born on 3 June 1898. I think her baptism name is different than her registered name.

This way I'll know for sure whether I'm barking up the wrong tree.
