Adding father to birth certificate?

Hello All,

My father isn't named on my birth certificate,

I would really like to change this and get his name on there.

Does anyone know how to go about it, what it will entail and do either of us need any documents??

Regards

Donna.

If you google 'birth certificate amendments' there seems to be plenty of information like this:

"It may be possible to change a birth record after the original registration has taken place by means of a certificate amendment.
The two most common reasons for this are:

•if the parents are unmarried and would like the natural father's details added to a birth record where this information was not included in the original birth entry; and
•if the natural parents have married each other since the birth and they want the record to show the child as a child of the parent's marriage"

I don't think you can add anyone onto it without them being there in person-in other words, your father has to do this rather than you. I think!

Contact your local Register Office and ask for Form GRO185 which is used to add father's details that have not previously been added at the point of registration. You should find all the necessary instructions are on the form.

Alternatively if you Google

form gro185

you will find downloadable pdf versions.
