Hi, I did post on there this morning but no one could find anything. I have been searching for 3yrs with no luck. Just wanted to know if there was any reason for not finding the family

Ellen,

If you'd like to post a few details of who you are looking for, where and when on the Find Ancestors board, then people will do their best to help you find them.

They may be hiding behind weird transcriptions !

Thank you for answering my question. The person I am searching for was born between 1873 and 1875 so they probably didn't bother registering his birth. It's been so frustrating as on the 1901 census the family didn't put where they were born so my search has came to a complete stand still.

Thank you once again

yes in theory everyone was on the census forms. Some forms may not be available now though as too badly damaged over time and some areas have been lost.
Births may not have been registered before 1875 as it wasnt compulsory till then when a fine was levied for non or late registration. Many people thought baptisms were sufficient or didnt answer the door to the Registrar in case it was someone wanting paying,!

Hi, I was just wondering if you had to fill in a census form during 1841-1911?? I am trying to find a family and they only appear in the 1901 census and baptism records. Also did you have to register a birth as I can not find a birth record !! Are there any other suggestions as to why I cant find any record of the family??
