Have you tried Google?

If he were injured or infirm he would be on a pension.

I would imagine he had been in the Indian Army. You might find some information on the FIBIS website

http://www.new.fibis.org/

or at the British Library.

Hello Stuart and welcome to the boards.

As well as the good ideas above, you can also try putting the name you are researching into the Search Trees box above (in the dark green bar) to see if anyone else on this site has him in their tree.

If you find a connection, you can contact the tree owners for further information. Regards. Cx.

It's not unusual to be a pensioner at that age in the mid-1800's. Life expectancy wasn't what it is today. Having said that though, a lot of people lived a lot longer and worked into old age.

Thanks everyone,
I didnt expect replies so quickly,
I sent the request from the Harwich - Hook of Holland ferry using the free Wi-Fi in a moment of boredom on the 6 hour trip,
I cant access my relatives full details at the moment as I am now in
Strasbourg.
I will be back home on Sept 29,again thank you to everyone who replied.
Regards,
Stuart.
