I am a member of Ancestry and there is nothing on there which matches what I am looking for, his military record that is. and somewhere along the line, between 1920 and 1930 he has 4 other first names and went to Australia :-(

I presume you have a name and place of birth or where he lived. If so, I think Ancestry still do a 14 day free trial. Grab a mug of tea and check it out for yourself.

Blushes a bit, should read things properly Thank you both, he was in during ww1, but I don't know when or where he joined up. Off to have a look now.

Sue, Ann asked "when" was he in the Army.

If it was in WW1, his Army record might be on Ancestry (only about 30% of those records survive) and his Medal card should be there.

If it was after 1920, his records will still be with the MoD and are only available to his next of kin.

Could someone help me please, I think I have an ancestors military number, so what I would like to know is are there any web sites I can put this number in to see what else I can find on him.
The number is on a Physical training certificate.
