Member Since: January 2005 Posts: 145 Send Message	There is a John Dunn aged 26 on the Archilles-royal navy. He was married. Does anyone know why he would be on this ship? And where his wife would be as I can't find her and their 1 year son on the 1881 census. I don't know for certain that this is my John Dunn so it would be good to know if there are any records anywhere so I can find out his date of birth. Any advise is welcome.

	He is on the ship because he is part of the crew. Any family will be at home. 	Dont quite understand your meaning of " Does anyone know why he would be on this ship?" When the census was taken in 1881 he was on board this ship and it was moored in neutral ground off Gibraltar, so he was an active sailor. It states he was born in 1854 in Liverpool. His birth should be on Freebmd Edit , unfortunately there are a couple ofJohn Dunn's born in Liverpool in 1854 George

Member Since: January 2005 Posts: 145 Send Message	His wife is Matilda Dunn born abt 1860 in Liverpool and son John Dunn 1880 in Little Bolton, Lancs. I didn't know he was a sailor. He was a herbalist on other census record
