Yes if you mean Royal Navy, these records can be obtained, don't know the waiting time or what they cost, i would imagine the cost is the same as other records £30-00 ish

Please note these records are only available to the person themselves, if they are still alive of course, but next of kin can also apply but this has to be proven that you are the direct nok

Read the info on this link.

This time last year the average waiting time was 9 mths.

What you do need to know is that they do not only deal with old records and any more recent requests (those still in service etc.) will take precedence.

Also when they did arrive they were not that helpful, they only told me the basic information, such as where he trained and was posted.

If you want to know more than that you will need the regimental diaries which can be kept at 3 different places:

1: National Archives, Kew
2: Imperial War Museum
3: Regimental Archives.

Although most seem to be at Kew, the other 2 possibilities are also key.

I waited 9 months for my father's army records (about 7 years ago) but I had already been told that it could take up to a year as they had to deal with requests from serving soldiers before any family history requests.

They were worth the wait though when they finally arrived.

Hi All,
I was just wondering if anyone who has ordered their relatives Army records, and waited the 9 - 12 months, haven't recieved them? and then had to chase them up further?
Thanks in advance,
Caroline.
