Hi All, slightly confused here. On my grandfathers birth certificate Garrity is spelt Garrity, yet on here it is spelt lots of different ways ie Garrety, Gerraty, Gerrity and so in. No wonder it is difficult trying to find relatives :-S. Has anybody else got this problem?

Hi Vanessa

When i started my irish research a few years ago - it was a nightmare to be truthful. But, coming onto this boards gave me a great deal of information.

I have ancestors in the north of ireland - Belfast, Londonderry, Co. Down.

For these i use familysearch, emerald ancestors, ulster historical foundation and irish roots.

Also, I have ancestors in the south of ireland - Co.Cork.

Again, I use familysearch & irish roots.

I have found alot of information on my ancestors using these sites - but you have to pay really to get records of births, marriages etc.

I have found them pretty easy to navigate too.

If you need further help - let me know either on this thread or by pm and i'll be glad to help you find more information as long as you give me all the relevant information.

Suzanne :)

Hi I have a question for Suzanne. You have family that you research in Ireland. How easy hard have you found it is to trace family there. Also if you don't think it is too cheeky asking what search engines do you have you used and how easy are they to use. Thanks Vanessa x :-)

Hi Dizzi. Sorry I did not come back on last night, went to bed early. I know Thomas had five brothers and one sister, I am really interested in what happened to the sister Mary born c1859 as she does not appear on census after 1881. Thomas had 5 children - Sarah (aunt Sally) she married someone called William Regan. Alice she married Albert Jones. Peter he died in 1st WW. William Matthew he was born in America and I believe he married a Evelyn Studholme and last but not least my Grandda James Richard. I think I may try to trace spouses and of members of their family eventually, its just a bit frustrating that I can't seem to trace any further back on the Irish side. Never mind I will just have to perservere. Cheers Vanessa

Hi I have tried searching up to 1891, but after that can't seem to find them, also noticed that their daughter Mary born 1859 does not appear on 1881 or 1891 census for some reason, but all the boys do, why would this happen? Its also quite difficult searching your Irish roots it is not as staight forward as searching for ancestors born in England. :-S

Hi Suzanne. Yes this is my family in the 1881 census. I think they were actually married in Ireland. Thanks Suzanne. I have tried searching different sites, but think I might be doing something wrong as I keep hitting brick walls.
Cheers Vanessa
