GillfromStaffs Report 18 Sep 2011 14:12

I have a marriage cert for my grand aunt Lily Forrester. She married Harry Attwood on 18 June 1918 in the Methodist Church at Voxhall Bridge London.
They were both Salvation Army Captains, Harry was 27 his dad was Harry Attwood a Borough Council Pensioner.
What do I know about Harry,
He entered the Salvation Army training college in 1909 but resigned a few months later due to ill health, However re entered the College in1913 this time with success. where was he between 1909 and 1913 I can't pin him down on 1901 or 1911.
Thanks Gill

Thank you Porkie pie,Marieceleste and+++DetEcTive+++
I have seen those but couldn't make up my mind which one, I didn't see that about "Government" so that looks hopeful.
I think I have been going sleightly mad looking for him.

Forgive my ignorance, Iam not familar with London, of those areas which would be closer to Nottinghill?

Hi Gill - does it look like any of the witnesses on the marriage certificate might have been family members?

Do you know anything about Harry jnr's siblings?

GillfromStaffs Report 18 Sep 2011 15:11

The wittness were Louisa Cox and Frank (looks like) Basles so doesn't look like it. His address on cert is 37 Moreton Place but that could be the Salvation Army address

Is it Vauxhall Bridge rather than Voxhall Bridge?

Using google maps, Notting Hill is closer to Vauxhall than Plumstead, 'across the river' at about 5 miles.

Plumstead to Vauxhall Bridge is about 11 miles, but easier to get to (now-a-days). The car directions says 32 mins, where as it says Vauxhall to Notting Hill would take about 20 Mins. Mind you, that's probably on a good day with all the traffic lights in your favour ;-)

Hi thanks for that,yes you are right it's difficult to read on the certificate, my idea of spelling isn't that good ether.
It just say on both records I have, he arrived out of Notting Hill corps but he may not have lived there,though he must lived in the area of Notting Hill I would have thought :-S
