It is not registration practice to state HM Prison (wherever) or similar institutions. All such institutions have a 'registered address' as mgnv has said and that is used for all registration events which take place 'inside'.
Having said that, if the coroner chooses to ignore that in his inquest verdict (as deaths in prison are referred to the coroner) then registrars have to take the information provided on the coroners certificate.

I've got a workhouse death where it doesn't say Union Workhouse, but instead says 123 Queen St , i.e., the workhouse's street address.
You might see the same thing with a prison.

I would think that anyone dying in prison that their death would in all probability be registered by the Prison Doctor or Governor.

And as said before you could tell from the registration district which prison it is.

On the other hand, if it only said H M Prison, the reg district and informant could give you a clue. That's assuming a relative didn't register the death.

The death certificate will state when and where the person died but unlikely to be specific by stating HM Prison (Wherever).
