hi
i have traced my 3x great grandfather henry finnis born east langdon kent
1803 died london poss bethnal green
he married susanna golder 1824 st george in the east london
i found him 1841 1851 census he was a policeman im trying to discover which police force he was with
any info appreciated

Also found this, which was dated 19th January 1846;

"HENRY FINNIS (City police-constable, No. 633.) I went with Biggs to No. 2, Sweetland-court, on Monday, the 19th—the cupboard under the stairs was pointed out to me—I discovered an empty pint bottle there—there was a board in the cupboard, and a hole by the side of it—it was such a hole as a person's arm could go through—I afterwards went to No. 29, Worship-street, to search the prisoner's lodging—he told me himself it was his lodging"

If you just put his name and number in more trials from The Old Bailey come up, with look this may help you to find his Pension records??? Try this site;

i have just ordered a paperback book my ancestor was a police man how to i find more so hope this will help to
a researcher asked for £ 60 to trace more on him must be joking

i also have another ancestor that was a police officer he was with the oxfordshire police reaching the rank of 1st class superintendant 1897 he retired on a police pension 1910
is there online court hearings for oxfordshire like there is for the old bailey
from mid 1800s
