My ancestor Jeremiah Garrard born 1778 at Barham,Suffolk died of this condition which I`m assuming could have been prostate cancer at St Botolphs Union Workhouse,Colchester in February 1853. Does anyone know if there are any records online or elsewhere where I might find more info about his time there? Thanks for any help.

Thanks for your replies, on the death certificate it does say incontinuance of urine but I suppose it may have been transcribed incorrectly at the time.

There is a medical problem called incontinuance of urine.

see
: books.google.co.nz/books?id=KsqApWmAoKUC... and other entries on google... Several medical journals etc are mentioned.

I had heard of it in animals and this is from the article on pets on google:

Incontinuance of Urine - is a condition in which the urine cannot be retained in the bladder and drips continually from the urethra. This may occur in paralysis of the sphincter of bladder, in case of some cystic calculi or some cases of Cystitis.
