Is there anyone who can help me with this register? Do you have access to look something up for me?

If you mean the one on Ancestry, a lot of us have access. If there is one on FMP (don't subscribe so wouldn't know) there are probably people who can help with that as well.

Copy and paste what you can see, or what you are looking for in a Post,- not by PM as they will be long gone - and someone will look it up and give the details from the image.

No, sorry - the info is very sparse on the books - they are only summaries. You may find a newspaper account of the trial.

Can't find anything that seems right for Edward. As the census you have given in 1881, the crime must have been before that. The closest is

Edward Hemming
Date of Trial: 6 Jan 1880
Trial Year: 1880
Location of Trial: Wiltshire, England
Sentence: Imprisonment 6 monhs - larceny - before convicted a felony. No age or occupation given.

Someone else may find him though!

PM = personal message.

Some posters seem 'ashamed' of the antics of their Ancestors, and choose to ask for assistance off board. Unfortunately, that limits the assistance to the skill of the helper, and everyone will acknowledge that there is always someone 'better' than them, or has experience in a certain type of search!!

In your case, the relative is well and truly deceased, so no harm would be done to the living.

There is an article in the Hampshire Advertiser and Salisbury Guardian 5 July 1834 which says: " Committed to Fisherton Gaol, William Hemmings charged with having assaulted Ann Crook, at Melksham."

Maybe this is him. Cannot find anything for Edward Hemmings.

It states he is in the Royal navy, and that he is a prisoner, where can I find this info?

Hi Deborah,

I believ you can contact the trustees of Bodmin Prison. It is a tourist site now, but they have access to old records. It was used a military prison for the navy for a time so the fact that Edward was a seaman would make sense.

Best of luck with this..
