Finding an address

Could someone please tell me if it possible to find a particular address in the 1901 census rather than search by name.

My daughter has bought a house in which my 1st cousin 3 times removed was living in in 1911 and I would love to know who lived there in 1901.

Yes you can on Findmypast.

What is the address and I'll have a look?

Thank you Kath.

The address is 35 Allestree Street Derby. In the 1911 census it has been transcribed as Allestill Street. RG number is 14 Enumeration district 4.

Unfortunately it isn't coming up in 1901. Perhaps it was only built between 1901 and 1911.

Sorry.

Thank you for looking anyway, it's appreciated.

I'd read on Zoopla that the house was built in 1900 which is why I'd asked.

Strangely enough if I do an address search for it in 1911 just using the street name, number 35 doesn't come up then either.

The address DOES come up on Findmypast in the 1911 census if you put in Allestill Street, Derby.

There is an Arthur Williamson with his wife and daughter living there.

May I ask how one goes about finding an address on the census. I have access to Ancestry and feel I am not getting the use out of it I should. I was also asked by a friend if I could find what the name of her house had been and would have loved to have done that for her.

Hi Jean,

I've just nudged up a thread on this board for you:
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/genealogy_chat/thread/1185642
Tip of the day...Address searching the census

Also,I find that with so many people having already done research and putting it online, your chances of finding a certain street or area in a particular census are pretty good just by doing a good old google!

Hi Maureen,

Many thanks for the link- I have just written it out so that I have an 'idiot' board beside me when I try it out.

I often type things into Google and invariably get so engrossed I loose track of my original purpose! The consequence of which means I must have one of the longest 'favourites' list ever!!
Thanks again it is much appreciated.
