I have found and purchased the service records online at nationalarchives.gov.uk for my grandfather and his 2 brothers, all Royal Marines. However I cant find the record there for their father James Clarke from Ireland, who died 1917 a Royal Marine pensioner. Can you suggest where to look next?

His record might be on Find My Past.

If you do not subscribe to FMP I would suggest if you post some details, someone might have a look for you.

Do you mean you got the 2 records from Documentsonline? (£3-50 each).

The earlier Royal Marine records on that site only include those who were still serving in 1884. If he had left by then, his records should be at Kew. Some have been name indexed in the National Archives Catalogue, which you can search online. Just put in his name and use ADM 157 as the series to search.

Thanks everyone

I don't know when he left the service but I know he died in Devon. I will take up your advice.

Thanks again
