Following on from the fact that I've confirmed I was on the right track with the help of a lovely group on here, you know you you all are. :-D

I now am faced wit this problem I searched for the marriage for James Sommerville to a Baird and only came up with one. Unfortunately the Baird is a Mary Baird and not a Christina.

My question is do we think it is the same person, a sister or a different family all together?

Lindsey - I haven't tried searching for a death for a Mary.

Quoy - This is for Scotland and 'm guessing some where between 1813 to 1823. Kida were born Wishaw so I'm guessing the marriage was in the area too or at least Lanark.

Why do some births show on the family search site but not on Scotlands people site?

If they are extracted births on familysearch, they should be on Scotlandspeople.

Can you give an example, Joe.

If those are the births you meant, they are all except Janet, b Carnwath, on scotlandspeople - not quite the same spellings in some cases.

Hi Potty no I was looking further back.

James appears to have a twin brother Peter and their parents are Hugh Sommerviel and Christian Stark.

On the IGI website however I was able to find Jean and Helen but not on Scotlands people why would this be?

I also looked for a death for a Mary Sommerville nee Baird but there was none, so I'm still lost as to whyI can only find a Mary Baird marrying a James Sommerville and not a Christian who is the mother of my children.

Helen's baptism is on scotlandspeople - make sure you use the Soundex option on the surname.

There are more children than Jean and Helen on familysearch but no Peter.

I found Peter when I found James on Scotlands people. They're on the same entry.

I just read how that sounds

Sommerville/Stark are the parents of Peter, James, Jean and Helen.

Sommerville/Baird is the next generation forward - too many peaople with similar names in this game.
