Syncing with the internet is optional, and even then you can keep your tree private.

There are many other improvements and additional features which make it a worthwhile upgrade.

I installed this about 2 weeks ago and really like it. It looks very similar to 2010/2011 with a few enhancements. The best thing I like about it is the sync function which you can set to either automatic or manual. This is a feature many people including myself have waited for a long time. Any changes you make to your tree in either FTM or on Ancestry gets replicated in the other tree.

It saves an awful lot of time and work.

My subscription to Ancestry was also automatically extend by one month which in real terms means FTM 2012 costs virtually nothing.

It is also possible to maintain numerous trees on 2012. Not all of these have to be synced with Ancestry so it is possible to keep one tree with more private information on your computer only.

It's worth a thought but there are people who share trees on Ancestry, they have equal editing rights etc. If one of them makes a change on the tree on their own computer, the changes will get transmitted to the other persons computer via the Ancestry sync process.

I too received this offer. I currently use 2010 and keep my whole family tree on it - including living people. I am not sure I want all the information replicated on the Internet...I need somewhere to keep the information I do not want to make public, so maybe I will stick with what I have.

I upgraded from 2011 last week

FTM 2012 is two version up and has lots more features. I know FTM claimed there were 100 more added in 2011....!

2012 also gives you the option to have your tree replicated on the internet and automatically kept in sync with your PC. Haven't tried it yet but looks interesting. You also get a months worth of Ancestry Essentials.

I have received an offer from Ancestry of FTM 2012 for £19.99. Please can you tell me if it's worth updating from 2010? Thanks.
