Kelly's Directories listed Businesses and also used to have road names with a list of who lived at each address in the back. I last looked at some at a Records Office. Might be worth enquiring at the Records office for the area where the business was.

Do not think Yellow Pages was around in the 1950's.

But if you contact the local history centre or archive centre they may have copies of Business Directories from this time.

They may also have copies of local newspapers in which this business may have advertised.

Unless you live in the area, you may have to pay for this information. The average charge comes in at around £25.00 - £30.00 per hour, and for this hours research they will trawl through all the relevant records they have and forward any information they find. Sadly if they find nothing you may not get a refund or only a partial refund.

Well worth it in my case, twice I have hit pay dirt once in Brighton and once in Guernsey.

Yellow pages in tel directory also many towns did their own Directories for instance I know that Lincoln had Ruddock's Dirctory and Rutland had Matkin's Directory (usually done by local printers). Contact the nearest local library and ask the Local Studies Officer.

Also Ancestry has Tel Directories that are searchable. If you haven't got a sub then ask on here or try your own library which may have free access , many do
